Is Lacoset a habit-forming medicine?

No, Lacoset is not habit forming. There are no reports which suggest occurrence of withdrawal symptoms following its discontinuation. Lacoset may cause euphoria (patients may feel extremely happy and overwhelmed) in some individuals who may then take it merely for fun (drug abuse). It is possible that such individuals may become psychologically dependent on this medicine.

Can I take Lacoset if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

Though no potential side effects have been reported with the use of Lacoset during pregnancy and breastfeeding, it is best to avoid Lacoset during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Do seizures damage the brain?

Prolonged seizures are clearly capable of injuring the brain. Isolated, brief seizures are likely to cause negative changes in brain function and possibly loss of specific brain cells.

What is lacosamide used to treat?

Lacosamide is used to control partial onset seizures (seizures that involve only one part of the brain) in adults and children 4 years of age and older.

Does Lacoset have any effect on fertility?

Lacoset has not been reported to affect fertility in males or females. However, if you are concerned, consult the doctor.

What should I do if I forget a dose of Lacoset?

If you miss a dose of Lacoset within 6 hours of the scheduled time, take it as soon as you remember. However, if you have forgotten to take the dose for more than 6 hours of the scheduled time then skip the dose and take the next one as scheduled. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed dose.

How does lacosamide work?

Lacosamide is used to prevent and control seizures. It is an anticonvulsant or antiepileptic drug. It works by reducing the spread of seizure activity in the brain.

Is lacosamide a narcotic?

VIMPAT is a federally controlled substance (CV) because it can be abused or lead to drug dependence. Keep your VIMPAT in a safe place, to protect it from theft. Never give your VIMPAT to anyone else, because it may harm them. Selling or giving away this medicine is against the law.

How long does it take lacosamide to work?

It may take 2 to 3 weeks for lacosamide to have its full effect.

For how long do I need to continue Lacoset?

Lacoset is generally prescribed for long-term use. Keep taking the medicine as advised by your doctor’s advice. However, if you experience any bothersome side effects, talk to your doctor.

What if somebody takes excess of Lacoset?

Excess of Lacoset may cause dizziness, nausea, vomiting, seizures, shock, heart problems and even coma. If such a situation arises, seek emergency medical support in a nearby hospital.

I have been taking Lacoset since nine months and haven’t had any seizures till now. Can I stop taking it now?

No, you should not stop taking Lacoset even if you start feeling better. Stopping this medicine suddenly may lead to seizures which can be difficult to control. Consult your doctor if you experience any problems while being on treatment with Lacoset. The doctor may adjust the dose or gradually reduce the dose.

Is lacosamide used for nerve pain?

Lacosamide is a sodium-channel blocker that is efficacious in animal models of neuropathic pain. In humans, its effect in neuropathic pain is inconclusive, based on inconsistent results and very large placebo responses.

Does lacosamide cause weight gain?

The most common adverse effects of lacosamide include dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting, diplopia, fatigue, and sedation. Less common side effects include memory impairment, weight gain, rash, and atrioventricular block [3].

Is it safe to drive if I am taking Lacoset?

No, you need to be careful while driving or operating heavy machinery until and unless you know how Lacoset affects you. You may experience dizziness or drowsiness and blurred vision, especially during the initial days of treatment. These side effects can also be observed if the dose is increased.
