Combigan combines two active ingredients: brimonidine tartrate (0.2%) and timolol maleate (0.5%). Brimonidine Tartrate: An alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist that decreases aqueous humor production and enhances uveoscleral outflow, leading to reduced eye pressure. Timolol Maleate: A non-selective beta-adrenergic receptor blocker that lowers IOP by reducing the production of aqueous humor. The synergistic action of these components provides a more significant IOP reduction than either agent alone.
Glaucoma: A group of eye conditions characterized by damage to the optic nerve, often due to elevated intraocular pressure. If untreated, it can lead to vision loss. Ocular Hypertension: Higher than normal eye pressure without detectable damage to the optic nerve or vision loss. It increases the risk of developing glaucoma.
Combigan 0.5/0.2% Eye Drops is a combination ophthalmic solution containing brimonidine tartrate and timolol maleate. It effectively reduces intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. With dual-action mechanisms, it minimizes aqueous humor production and enhances outflow, helping protect the optic nerve from damage. The medication is well-tolerated, with mild side effects such as eye irritation, dryness, or blurred vision. Proper administration and adherence to prescribed dosages ensure optimal results in eye pressure control and vision preservation.
