Chlorocol H Eye Ointment is a combination of two medicines: Chloramphenicol and Hydrocortisone. Chloramphenicol is an antibiotic which stops bacterial growth by inhibiting synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions. Hydrocortisone is a steroid medicine. It blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that cause redness, swelling and itching after an allergy or infection.
Place tube directly over eye and squeeze a small amount into the pouch. Gently roll your eye for 1 to 2 minutes to spread the ointment. Do not rub the eye. Wipe away any excess medication.
Adult: PO- The recommended dose is 50 mgkgday in 4 divided doses, may increase to 100 mgkgday in more severe infections. Eye Drops: As 0.5% solution: Instill 1 or 2 drops 2 hourly. It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, on an empty stomach.
