This formulation has been prepared from the combination of four medicines: Dextromethorphan hydrobromide and Chlorpheniramine maleate which relieve dry cough. Dextromethorphan hydrobromide is a cough suppressant that provides relief from cough by reducing the activity of the cough center of the brain. Chlorpheniramine maleate inhibits histamine, which relieves allergy symptoms such as sneezing and itching. Chlorpheniramine is an antihistamine that stops the body from making histamine during an allergic reaction. Phenylephrine is a nasal decongestant that makes breathing easier by treating swelling and congestion by contracting the blood vessels present in the nasal passages.
A dry cough occurs without producing any mucus or phlegm. It is primarily caused by irritation or inflammation in the throat and airways, such as from allergies, smoke, or a viral infection like the common cold.
