It belongs to the class of drugs known as angiotensin II receptor blockers and thiazide diuretics. It is used to control high blood pressure and may also improve symptoms of chronic heart failure.

Valsartan relaxes and widens blood vessels, allowing smoother blood flow, thus lowering blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic that removes extra water and electrolytes, further aiding blood pressure reduction and improving blood flow.

How Valembic H 160mg/12.5mg Tablet works

Valembic H 160mg/12.5mg Tablet is a combination of two medicines: Valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide which lower blood pressure effectively. Valsartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB). It works by blocking the hormone angiotensin thereby relaxing blood vessels. This allows the blood to flow more smoothly and the heart to pump more efficiently. Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic that removes extra water and certain electrolytes from the body. Over time it also relaxes blood vessels and improves blood flow.

How To Use Valembic H 160mg/12.5mg Tablet

  • Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Valembic H 160mg/12.5mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

Does Valembic H cause weight gain?

No, Valembic H does not cause weight gain as a side effect. However, if your kidney function deteriorates, your body may swell due to the accumulation of water (fluid retention), resulting in weight gain. Inform your doctor if you experience any unexplained weight gain or swelling in your feet, ankles or hands.

Is Valembic H bad for kidneys?

Valembic H does not generally affect the working of a proper functioning kidney. However, there is limited data to support the safety of patients who have existing severe kidney impairment (creatinine clearance <10 ml/min) and are on dialysis. Hence, Valembic H should be used cautiously in such patients. It should only be used when advised by the doctor.

Who should not be given Valembic H?

Valembic H should not be given to patients who are allergic to it, have severe liver disease, have diabetes or impaired kidney function. Also, its use should be restricted if you are being treated with blood pressure lowering medicine containing Aliskiren. In addition to that, Valembic H should not be used if you are pregnant or trying to conceive. If you are not sure or have any queries, consult your doctor.

How long does it take for Valembic H to start working?

A substantial decrease in blood pressure can be experienced within 2 weeks of starting Valembic H. However, the medicine may take up to 4 weeks to show its complete effects. How long do I need to take Valembic H?

Continue taking Valembic H as long as your doctor has prescribed. Do not stop taking it even if you start feeling better. You may even have to take it lifelong, since Valembic H does not cure high blood pressure or heart failure but controls them.

What is the most important information I should know about Valembic H?

Taking Valembic H during the last months of pregnancy can cause serious harm or even endanger the unborn baby. Therefore, do not take Valembic H if you are pregnant. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. If you become pregnant while taking Valembic H, stop taking Valembic H and call your doctor immediately.

Which medicine is considered safe for treating high blood pressure?

There are many blood pressure-lowering medicines which can be considered safe. The doctor will advise the exact use of these medicines, keeping various factors such as age, gender, other coexisting diseases, etc. into consideration. Also, the effect of the medicine and response of the patient can vary from person to person.
