Introduction to Swiftin 5mg Tablet

It is an antacid that reduces stomach acid production. It is used to treat and prevent conditions such as heartburn, indigestion, stomach ulcers, reflux disease, and certain rare conditions caused by excessive stomach acid.

It blocks specific receptors (H2 receptors) in the stomach lining, which reduces acid production. It also increases mucin secretion in the stomach, decreasing acid production and helping to heal stomach and small intestine ulcers. 

Use it in dose and duration as prescribed by your doctor.

Swiftin 5mg Tablet is a histamine H2 receptor antagonist. It works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach which helps in relief of acid-related indigestion and heartburn.

How To Use Swiftin 5mg Tablet

  • Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Swiftin 5mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

Avoid taking aspirin and other painkillers used to treat arthritis, period pain or headache. These medicines may irritate the stomach and make your condition worse. Contact your doctor who may suggest other medicines. Avoid coffee, tea, cocoa and cola drinks because these contain ingredients that may irritate your stomach. Eat smaller, more frequent meals. Eat slowly and chew your food carefully. Try not to rush at meal times. You should stop or cut down on smoking.

Is Swiftin safe for long-term use?

There is limited data available on whether Swiftin can be used for a long term or not, but it is a relatively safe medicine. You should take it for the duration advised by your doctor. Do not take over-the-counter Swiftin for longer than 2 weeks unless advised by your doctor.

Can I take Swiftin on an empty stomach?

Swiftin may be taken with or without food. It can be taken once daily before bedtime or twice daily in the morning and before bedtime, as recommended.

Can I take alcohol with Swiftin?

Alcohol does not interfere with the working of Swiftin. But, you should avoid taking alcohol as it will further damage the stomach, delaying your recovery.

How long does it take for Swiftin to start working?

If you take Swiftin orally, the effect usually begins within one hour. The maximum effect is generally reached within one to three hours of taking it. However, it depends upon the dose. The action of the medicine lasts for about 10 to 12 hours.

What are the serious side effects of Swiftin?

Swiftin may have some serious side effects but these are rare. These side effects may include hives, skin rash, itching, hoarseness and difficulty in breathing or swallowing. Another serious symptom may be swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, eyes, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs. Inform your doctor in case you notice any of the mentioned symptoms.

What is the difference between Swiftin and Omeprazole?

Swiftin and Omeprazole belong to different group of medicines. While Swiftin belongs to histamine H2 antagonists group, Omeprazole belongs to proton pump inhibitors group. Both these medicines work by reducing the amount of acid made by the stomach to relieve the symptoms and allow healing.
