How Picolax Suspension 100ml works

Picolax Suspension is a combination of two laxatives: Sodium picosulfate and milk of magnesia which relieve constipation. Sodium picosulfate is a stimulant laxative which increases peristalsis (the wave-like movement of the intestines) to push the stools forward. Milk of magnesia is a laxative that works by drawing water into the intestine through osmosis, making the stools soft and easier to pass.

How To Use Picolax Suspension 100ml

  • Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Measure it with a measuring cup and take it by mouth. Shake well before use. Picolax Suspension may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.

Does Picolax make you lose weight?

Picolax resulted in significantly greater weight loss, increases in haemoglobin concentration combined with cardiovascular changes suggesting hypovolaemia in the Picolax group. Intravenous fluid replacement is recommended in patients receiving Picolax.

How often can I use Picolax?

Two doses of Picolax will be needed; the first should be taken 10 to 18 hours before the procedure and the second 4 to 6 hours before the procedure. After the first dose you should have at least five 250ml drinks of clear liquids, spread over several hours.

How long does Picosulfate take to work?

Sodium picosulfate takes about 6-12 hours to work; therefore, it is best taken at bedtime. If sodium picosulfate has been prescribed for your child, follow carefully the instructions you are given, as your doctor will adjust the dose according to your child's age and needs.

Can you eat before taking Picolax?

We advise that you avoid eating food with seeds in for the 7 days prior to taking your PICOLAX Bowel preparation. Two Days Prior to your Procedure: Eat foods which are low in fibre. Avoid high fibre foods.

What is the use of Picolax?

What Picolax is used for. Picolax is used to cleanse the lower bowel in preparation for endoscopic, barium enema, X-ray or surgical gastrointestinal examination. It does this by acting in the intestine and colon causing a watery bowel motion which evacuates the bowel.
