Levofloxacin works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes necessary for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination in bacteria, leading to the death of the bacteria.
Illnesses caused by harmful bacteria, which can affect various parts of the body, such as the lungs, urinary tract, and skin, and require antibiotic treatment.
As a reasonably strong antibiotic, levofloxacin will begin working within a matter of hours, but it can be two to three days before symptoms begin to improve. Take the full course of antibiotics as prescribed by a healthcare provider, even if you feel better after a few days.
Levoflox 500 tablet is used to treat different types of bacterial infections such as pneumonia, throat and lung infections, sinus infections, kidney and urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue ...
Levofloxacin may rarely cause serious changes in blood sugar levels, especially if you have diabetes. Watch for symptoms of high blood sugar including increased thirst and urination. Also watch for symptoms of low blood sugar such as nervousness, shakiness, fast heartbeat, sweating, or hunger.
You may take levofloxacin tablets with or without food. Take levofloxacin oral solution (liquid) on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Measure liquid medicine carefully. Use the dosing syringe provided, or use a medicine dose-measuring device (not a kitchen spoon).
No, do not stop taking Levoflox and complete the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cured.
Fluoroquinolones, including ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin and moxifloxacin, are common broad-spectrum antibiotics most often used to treat respiratory and urogenital infections. Case reports have indicated acute kidney injury with use, and prescription labels carry a warning of kidney failure.
You can take levofloxacin before or after meals. If you are taking one dose a day, it is preferable to take it in the morning. If you are taking more than one dose a day, try to space out your doses - so ideally, take a tablet every 12 hours.
Levofloxacin (Levaquin) is a fluoroquinolone antibacterial agent with a broad spectrum of activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and atypical respiratory pathogens. It is active against both penicillin-susceptible and penicillin-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae.
Levofloxacin can cause serious side effects, including tendon problems, side effects on your nerves (which may cause permanent nerve damage), serious mood or behavior changes (after just one dose), or low blood sugar (which can lead to coma).
Both Levaquin and amoxicillin are used to treat infections of the lungs, airways, skin, urinary tract, and ears. Differences between the two drugs include the conditions the drugs are used to treat. Amoxicillin also is used to treat infections of tonsillitis, throat, and larynx (laryngitis).
Levoflox is safe if used at prescribed doses for the prescribed duration as advised by the doctor.<br>
