Introduction to Isonex 300mg Tablet

Isonex 300mg Tablet should be used in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. It is to be taken on an empty stomach. Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Stopping it early can result in treatment failure and increase the side effects too. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose. Simply take the next dose as planned.

It may cause tingling and numbness of feet and hand (peripheral neuropathy) as a side effect of this medicine. Inform your doctor if you notice signs of jaundice i.e. yellowing of eyes or skin, dark urine, stomach pain or joint pain. You may also develop hepatitis (viral infection of the liver) or increased liver enzymes as side effects of this medicine. Please consult your doctor, as these side effects require medical attention and need dose modification.

Your doctor may monitor your liver function while on treatment with this medicine. Avoid drinking alcohol as this may have additional adverse effects on the liver. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before using this medicine.

How To Use Isonex 300mg Tablet

  • Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Isonex 300mg Tablet is to be taken empty stomach. Avoid Isonex 300mg Tablet with tyramine-rich food such as cheese, smoked fish, meats and some types of beer.

Can I take isoniazid with ibuprofen/Benadryl/Nyquil/Aleve/Mucinex/amoxicillin?

There no known serious drug interactions of isoniazid with ibuprofen, paracetamol (trade name: Tylenol), naproxen (trade name: Aleve), amoxicillin or any active drug present in Nyquil or Mucinex. Please inform your doctor about all the medication you are currently taking to avoid interactions that may reduce effectiveness of any treatment or aggravate side effects

Is Isonex an antibiotic?

Isonex is an antibiotic used in the prevention and treatment of tuberculosis or TB (a serious infection caused by bacteria that affects the lungs and in certain cases other parts of the body)

Is Isonex chemotherapy/chemotherapy drug?

Isonex is a primary antibiotic used for treatment of tuberculosis. Do not confuse it with chemotherapy or chemo drugs used for the treatment of cancer

Is Isonex an inducer or inhibitor?

Isonex is an inhibitor (decreases activity) of an important liver enzyme system that is responsible for the final processing and elimination of several drugs from the body

Is Isonex a MAOI?

Isonex has very weak inhibitory activity on enzymes monoamine oxidases (MAO) however it is not used as a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI)

Is Isonex bacteriostatic or bactericidal?

Isonex is a bacteriostatic antibiotic. It stops or suppresses growth of tuberculosis causing bacteria by interfering with the formation of protective outer covering (cell wall) which is essential for their growth

Is Isonex a sulfa drug?

No. The chemical structure and mechanism of action of Isonex is different from sulfa drugs

Does Isonex affect birth control?

Isonex has no known interaction with commonly used oral contraceptives (birth control pills). However, multidrug treatment for tuberculosis contains active drug rifampin that decreases the effectiveness of oral contraceptives and hampers birth control.

Is Isonex safe?

Yes. Isonex is safe if used at prescribed doses for the prescribed duration as advised by your doctor

Does Isonex cause acne/make you tired/cause constipation?

You may experience unusual tiredness, constipation or acne while on treatment with Isonex. Please inform your doctor about all the medication you are currently taking to avoid interactions that may reduce effectiveness of any treatment or aggravate side effects

Does Isonex cause weight loss/weight gain/hair loss/diarrhea/affect menstruation?

Changes in body weight (gain/loss), hair loss, diarrhea or changes in menstruation are not among the known side effects of Isonex. You may experience few of these side effects while on multi drug (including Isonex) treatment for tuberculosis
