It is one of the first vaccines developed using recombinant DNA technology. The vaccine contains a non-infectious component of the hepatitis B virus surface antigen (HBsAg) produced by yeast cells.
The vaccine is considered safe for pregnant women, but they should consult with their healthcare provider.
Patients with liver disease, such as chronic hepatitis C or cirrhosis, are at a higher risk of severe complications if they contract hepatitis B. Vaccination is crucial for preventing further liver damage and complications.
The vaccine is made by inserting the gene for the hepatitis B surface antigen into yeast cells. These cells produce the antigen, which is then purified and used to make the vaccine. When administered, the vaccine stimulates the immune system to produce antibodies against HBsAg. If a vaccinated person is later exposed to the hepatitis B virus, their immune system can recognize and fight off the virus more effectively.
Hepatitis B is a potentially life-threatening liver infection caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV). It can lead to chronic liver disease, liver failure, liver cancer, and even death. The Hepatitis B Vaccine (rDNA) is used to prevent HBV infection.
