Dydrogesterone is a type of progestogen that functions by regulating the healthy growth and normal shedding of the lining of the womb. It achieves this by interacting with progesterone receptors in the uterus, which helps support the retention of pregnancy. It helps alleviate symptoms associated with endometriosis, a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside it.
Progesterone Deficiencies refer to lower than normal levels of the hormone progesterone in the body which can impact various reproductive processes and menstural cycle regulation.
Dydrogesterone 2 x 20 mg/d should be used in pregnant women with a history of recurrent (habitual) miscarriage and extended up to 37 weeks of gestation.
Dydrogesterone is used in female infertility, pain during menstruation, endometriosis, amenorrhea, abnormal uterine bleeding and premenstural syndrome. Dydrogesterone is a progestin (female hormone). It works by regulating the healthy growth and normal shedding of the womb lining.
The dose and the number of days required to take Dydroboon depend on the medical problem you are being treated for. Take the medicine exactly as directed by your doctor. You can take it with or without food, preferably at the same time of each day.
Irregular cycles: 10 or 20 mg dydrogesterone per day starting with the second half of the menstrual cycle until the first day of the next cycle. The starting day and the number of treatment days will depend on the individual cycle length.
Dydroboon is used to prevent habitual abortion (miscarriage) and possible cases of abortion. Your doctor will advise you regarding the dose and duration of treatment. It is advised that you should follow the instructions for best results.
Dydroboon may cause an increased risk of hypospadias which is a birth defect of the penis involving the urinary opening. This occurs in children whose mothers have taken certain progestogens. However, the chance of developing this increased risk is not yet certain. So far, there is no evidence that taking Dydroboon during pregnancy is harmful. Discuss with your doctor the risks and benefits of taking Dydroboon during pregnancy.
You should not take Dydroboon if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to it or you have a tumor that is made worse by progestogens (such as meningioma). Along with that, if you have irregular or unusually heavy periods and you have not told your doctor then restrain from using dydrogestrone.

If you forget to take today’s tablet and it is less than 12 hours late, take it as soon as you remember. Continue taking the next scheduled tablet at the normal time. But, if it is more than 12 hours since you should have taken your tablet, miss this tablet out and continue the medication as prescribed. Remember not to take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose. Missing a tablet may cause irregular bleeding or spotting.
Dydroboon is used to relieve the symptoms of endometriosis (a problem caused by growth of the womb lining outside the womb), to treat infertility due to low levels of progesterone. In addition to that, it also helps to relieve painful periods, to control irregular periods (that come at the wrong time or not at all), to relieve the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), to restart periods that have stopped before the menopause (amenorrhoea), and to stop or prevent unusually heavy or long periods (often due to the start of the menopause).
Dydroboon is a man-made synthetic progesterone. However, it is very similar to the hormone “progesterone” made by your body. It is used in conditions when your body does not produce enough progesterone.
