Who should not use diclofenac gel?

You should not use this medicine if you are allergic to diclofenac (Voltaren, Cataflam, Flector, and others), or if you have ever had an asthma attack or severe allergic reaction after taking aspirin or an NSAID. Diclofenac topical is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old.

Is diclofenac a muscle relaxer?

It is used to treat muscle aches, backaches, dental pain, menstrual cramps, and sports injuries. It also reduces pain, swelling, and joint stiffness caused by arthritis. Reducing these symptoms helps you do more of your normal daily activities. This medication is known as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).

How should I use Diclo?

Apply Diclo as described in the label. Use it twice daily, morning and evening. Take a small amount of gel and rub it gently on the affected area. The amount needed will vary depending upon the size of the painful or swollen area. Do not exceed the recommended dose.

Is pennsaid only for knees?

Pennsaid (diclofenac topical 2% solution) is used to treat pain in the knees caused by osteoarthritis. Pennsaid is for use only on the knees and should not be used on other parts of the body.

Can Diclo hurt your kidneys?

Long-term use and high doses of Diclo may cause renal problems such as protein or blood in urine and painful urination. Patients who are at maximum risk of developing kidney problems include people who are dehydrated, have heart failure, impaired kidney function, hypertension, elderly, who are on medicines which cause excess urination (diuretics), or medicines which have significant impact on kidney function. Hence, for such patients kidney function monitoring is recommended.

What is Diclo gel used for?

This medication is used to relieve joint pain from arthritis. Diclofenac belongs to a class of drugs known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). If you are treating a chronic condition such as arthritis, ask your doctor about non-drug treatments and/or using other medications to treat your pain.

Is diclofenac gel safe?

Diclofenac may also cause stomach or intestinal bleeding, which can be fatal. These conditions can occur without warning while you are using Voltaren Gel, especially in older adults.

Does Diclo get you high?

No, Diclo does not get you high. It does not have an abuse potential (drug-seeking behavior) and does not cause physical or psychological dependence. However, if you do not feel well, consult your doctor.

Where do I apply diclofenac gel?

The gel should be applied within the oblong area of the dosing card up to the 2 or 4 gram line (2 grams for each elbow, wrist, or hand, and 4 grams for each knee, ankle, or foot). Apply the medicine very carefully to clean, dry skin, and avoid getting any in your eyes, nose, or mouth.

Why is diclofenac banned?

The Government of India banned “Diclofenac and its formulations for veterinary use” in July 2008 with a view to conserving vultures and, in July 2015, allowed use of the drug as a single-dose injection for humans only. According to wildlife veterinarians, the key cause of vulture deaths is food poisoning.

Can Diclo be taken during pregnancy?

You should not take Diclo during the last 3 months of pregnancy as it may cause harmful effects on your baby. Use of Diclo can also lead to reduced labor (premature delivery). Hence, it is advised to avoid using Diclo during the first 6 months of pregnancy also. In some cases, Diclo may be prescribed in pregnant women only if the benefits outweigh the risks involved with its use in pregnant women. If not sure, consult your doctor regarding its use.
