It is an antifungal medication used solely for external use. It belongs to the class of drugs known as antifungals.
Clotrimazole works by disrupting the protective barrier of fungal cells. It messes with their membrane, making it difficult for them to survive. Essentially, clotrimazole weakens and damages the fungal cells, preventing their growth and reproduction.
Fungal infections of mouth (Thrush) are caused by an overgrowth of a fungus called Candida albicans in the mouth. This fungus normally lives in the mouth, but sometimes it can multiply and cause symptoms such as white patches, redness, soreness, and difficulty swallowing.
This kills the fungus and treats the infection. How long does it take to work? External symptoms such as itching and discharge should get better within 3 days. Talk to a doctor if your symptoms do not get better or get worse.
Keep the affected skin areas clean and dry but avoid excessive rubbing. You may have the urge to scratch because of itchiness but avoid scratching as it will damage the surface of skin and cause the infection to spread further. Do not share towels, bath mats, etc. with other people as you could spread the infection to them.
Always wash your hands thoroughly before and after applying Canesten. If you are using the cream for an infected foot, wash and dry your feet thoroughly before applying the cream, especially between the toes, before applying the cream. Canesten should be applied thinly and evenly and rubbed in gently.to the affected areas two or three times daily.
Canesten is effective against Trichophyton species which cause ringworm infection, athlete’s foot and jock itch (fungal infection of the skin in the groin or buttocks). It is also effective against yeast known as Candida which commonly causes vaginal thrush (infection caused by overgrowth of yeast called Candida albicans).
Thrush treatment Thrush should clear up within 7 to 14 days of starting treatment. You do not need to treat partners unless they have symptoms.
The symptoms of skin infection, such as itching or soreness, should improve within a few days of treatment. However, the signs such as redness and scaling may take longer to disappear. Do not stop applying this medicine before the duration advised by your doctor, even if you feel better.
Canesten is an antifungal medicine. It is used to treat fungal skin infections such as ringworm (fungal skin infection that causes a red scaly rash on different parts of the body), athlete’s foot (fungal infection of the skin on the feet and between the toes), fungal nappy rash and fungal sweat rash. It is also used to relieve irritation of the vulva (external thrush) and irritation occurring at the end of the penis, which may be associated with thrush.
The duration of treatment depends on the type of infection. In general, the treatment is continued for 1 month for tinea infection and for at least for 15 days for candida infection. Do not stop the treatment on your own even if you feel better because the infection may come back as it takes some time to kill the fungus.
Treating Thrush To treat the infection you can use an internal product that contains the active ingredient clotrimazole or fluconazole. Choose from the oral pill, soft gel pessary, pessary or internal cream. These products all treat your infection, but different people prefer different treatment options.
Thrush is characterized by a white coating or white patches on the tongue, mouth, inner cheeks, and the back of the throat. The tissue under the white patches is often red, raw, and sore. The lesions can be painful and even bleed when scraped. Oral thrush often looks like cottage cheese or milk curds.
Those that penetrate into the body typically increase in severity over time and, if left untreated, may cause permanent damage and in some cases may eventually cause death. A few fungal infections may be easily passed on to other people, while others typically are not contagious.
Vaginal thrush is a common infection caused by an overgrowth of the yeast Candida albicans. This yeast lives naturally in the bowel and in small numbers in the vagina. Its mostly harmless, but symptoms can develop if yeast numbers increase. About 75% of women will have vaginal thrush in their lifetime.
Clotrimazole reduces vaginal burning, itching, and discharge that may occur with this condition. This medication is an azole antifungal.
Canesten is safe for children only if taken as directed by the doctor. It should be given to children in the correct dose only for the prescribed length of time. Minor side effects may occur but usually, they are not bothersome. However, if you develop a burning sensation, redness and itching (which is severe in nature), stop the medicine and contact your doctor.

If you dont really have a yeast infection, antifungals wont help you get better. They can actually prolong the real problem, because while youll think youre treating the issue, the real cause will continue to develop. There are several reasons you might have symptoms that are like a yeast infection.
Canesten Thrush Soft Gel Pessary To get rid of thrush you should treat the yeast infection from within. Canesten single-dose soft gel pessary is designed to be comfortable to insert and effectively treats the thrush infection at the source.
