Calpol 500 Tablet is a painkiller containing paracetamol (also known as Acetaminophen) as its active ingredient. It is used to reduce fever and relieve pain and works by inhibiting the action of certa. Use of Calpol 500 Tablet for a prolonged period and in high doses is associated with serious liver damage.
Ibuprofen and Calpol are safe painkillers which can be given to children, though both should not be used together. If you have given your child Calpol and there is no improvement in pain and the child still feels feverish, try ibuprofen instead for the next scheduled dose.

The usual dose is 2.5ml of infant syrup (or a 60mg suppository). If your baby was premature, or theyre small for their age, check with your doctor or health visitor. They may recommend a lower dose. You can give your baby 1 more dose of syrup 4 hours later, if they need it.
Calpol products also help to calm symptoms of colds & flu, such as a cough, earache, sore throat, and nasal congestion. Calpol products contain either paracetamol or ibuprofen so it is important to give your child the correct medicine for their symptoms.
If your child vomits within30 minutes of taking a dose of Calpol tablets or syrup, give him/her the same dose again. However, if your child vomits after 30 minutes of taking a dose of tablets or syrup, you do not need to give him/her another dose. You can give your child the next scheduled dose on its defined time.
In general, acetaminophen (the active ingredient contained in Calpol Infant) is well-tolerated when administered in therapeutic doses. The most commonly reported adverse reactions have included nausea, vomiting, constipation.
Usually, your child will feel better after about half an hour of taking Calpol. Consult your doctor if the fever persists.
At what temperature should I give CALPOL<sup>®</sup>? If your little one has a temperature of 38°C or above it is classed as a fever. If your child seems distressed, you may want to consider giving them CALPOL ® Infant Suspension.
The notion that we could be seriously damaging our childrens health came out in the news after Professor Sutcliffe was reported stating that, over time, chronic use of Calpol (or other paracetamol-based medicines) could lead to a child developing kidney, heart and liver damage.
Do not exceed the recommended dose. Taking more than the recommended dose (overdose) may cause liver damage. In case of overdose, get medical help straight away. Quick medical attention is critical for adults as well as children even if signs and symptoms are not noticed.
You should only give four doses of Calpol in 24 hours. Maintain a gap of at least 4 hours between two doses. Do not give Calpol for more than 3 days to your child without first talking to your doctor.
