It contains Mupirocin. Mupirocin is a topical antibiotic commonly used to treat bacterial skin infections. It is particularly effective against infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus species. Mupirocin is often prescribed for conditions like impetigo and infected cuts or abrasions.
Mupirocin works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. It binds to the bacterial enzyme isoleucyl-tRNA synthetase, preventing the bacteria from synthesizing essential proteins needed for their survival and replication. This action effectively stops the growth of the bacteria, allowing the body's immune system to eliminate the infection.
Impetigo: A highly contagious bacterial skin infection, often seen in children, characterized by red sores that quickly rupture, ooze for a few days, and form a yellow-brown crust.
