Isordil 5 Sublingual tablet is used to prevent chest pain (angina attacks). It works by relaxing and widening blood vessels so blood can flow more easily to the heart. These tablets will not treat an angina attack that has already begun.
Isordil 5 Sublingual tablet must be taken in the dose and duration as advised by the doctor. Place the tablet under the tongue or between the cheek and gum, and let it dissolve. It is usually taken as needed, either 5 to 10 minutes before physical activities or at the first sign of angina. You should take the medicine as it is prescribed for you and keep taking it, even if you feel well. If you stop taking it suddenly your risk of an angina attack will increase. Lifestyle changes such as diet, exercise, and not smoking may help this drug work better.
You can develop tolerance to this medicine over time, which means that the same dose becomes less effective. You have to stick to a really specific dosing schedule to prevent this from happening. Medical tests (such as blood pressure) may be required to monitor your progress and check for side effects.
Consuming alcohol while taking Isordil 5 Sublingual tablet may cause symptoms such as flushing, increased heart beat, nausea, thirst, chest pain and low blood pressure (Disulfiram reaction).
Isordil 5 Sublingual tablet may be unsafe to use during pregnancy. Although there are limited studies in humans, animal studies have shown harmful effects on the developing baby. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and any potential risks before prescribing it to you. Please consult your doctor.
Isordil 5 Sublingual tablet is probably safe to use during breastfeeding. Limited human data suggests that the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby.
Isordil 5 Sublingual tablet may decrease alertness, affect your vision or make you feel sleepy and dizzy. Do not drive if these symptoms occur.
